Benefits of Binaural Beats on Mental Health

If you’re reading this post chances are you’ve been intrigued by the findings of binaural beats. The weirdly soothing music track that can increase your focus and improve feelings of calmness.

What exactly are binaural beats?

A binaural beat is a form of auditory illusion where two different sound tones are combined and listened to.

According to research published on National Library of Medicine, “exposure to binaural-beats is an effective way to influence cognition positively, reduce anxiety levels and perception of pain. The magnitude of it’s positive effects depends on the frequency the binaural beats are used, as well as the duration it’s being used for.”

Findings from Donna D Zampi, also concluded that a form of binaural beats known as theta binaural beats is found to be effective for the treatment of chronic pain in reducing perceived pain severity.

What does this mean?

During stressful moments, times when you want to increase focus, productivity, creativity, as well as during meditation, playing binaural beats can help us reach higher levels of satisfaction.

There are 5 types of brainwave frequencies you can utilize when engaging in certain activities, here are the summaries:

  • Delta brainwave (0.1 Hz – 4 Hz): Deep sleep, relaxation, pain relief, healing

  • Theta brainwave (4 Hz – 8 Hz): Deep relaxation, meditation, creativity, REM sleep, hypnosis

  • Alpha brainwave (8 Hz – 14 Hz): Relaxed focus, stress reducing, positive thinking, achieving the flow state

  • Beta brainwave (14 Hz – 30 Hz): High level cognition, analytical thinking and problem solving

  • Gamma brainwave (30 Hz – 100 Hz): Memory recall, peak awareness, transcendental states

Here’s where to listen to binaural beats:

-          Spotify playlists (simply type in binaural beats for study/ relaxation/ focus/ sleep)

While I’m a beginner at my research on binaural beats, listening to it has improved my mood and focus tremendously. I highly recommend using it as a resource to boost your creativity and productivity, reduce stress in times of needs.
